FRANKFORT, Del., and WELD – Wendell P. Holman Jr., 74, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at William Hill Manor, Easton, Md. Born Dec. 14, 1932, in Nyack, N.Y., he was the son of the late Wendell P. Sr. and Norma Jean Demarest Holman. In 1956 he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maine. He entered the U.S. Army, where he served until 1977, retiring as lieutenant colonel. A Vietnam veteran, he also served in Korea and three tours in Germany during the Cold War. He proudly commanded the 81st Maintenance Battalion in Manheim, Germany in 1969 before serving LTG Harold G. Moore as his J4 in Korea in 1970. His last tour of duty was at Aberdeen Proving Ground where he went into civil service with the Human Engineering Laboratory until 1985. During his military career, he earned the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Award. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed wilderness activities, was an expert canoeist, and an avid builder of military models. Mr. Holman is survived by two children, Deborah McFarland and her husband, Barry, of Trappe, Md., and Wendell P. Holman III and his wife, Lisa, of Perryville, Md. Services will be private.
