VAN BUREN – Gerry Violette, 78, died Feb. 2, 2007, at a nursing home in Vernon, Vt. She was born March 2, 1928, in Van Buren, the daughter of Joseph and Yvonne (Ouellette) Corriveau. She married Gabriel Violette of Van Buren, Nov. 16, 1948. Gerry spent her life in Van Buren. She was very well- known and very loved. She was an avid walker and often on her daily walks she would stop at some of the local businesses and visit with the owners and employees. She was extremely crafty. Among her talents were oil painting, ceramics, macram?, knitting, sewing and needlepoint. Gerry taught adult education classes in Van Buren for 28 years. She passed down some of these crafts to many ladies in the community. Gerry worked for many years in her father, Joe Corriveau’s restaurant, waitressing along with her sister, Muriel. She loved vacationing on Cape Cod at her sister, Claudette’s, home, where she got to spend time there with some of her sisters and her brother, Bob. She also loved spending time at Long Lake with her friend, Leola, where they would do crafts together. Gerry visited her friend, Jackie, almost daily. She loved getting together with friends to play Scrabble and cards, or to just visit. Gerry was famous for her gorgeous tan! She was the first in town with a tan and definitely the one who got the darkest, and all from laying on the back roof of her apartment! She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Gerry had six siblings, two of which predeceased her, Leo Corriveau and Ethel MaGrath. Her four surviving siblings are Muriel Doucette of Van Buren, Joan Olsen of East Hartford, Conn., Claudette Hallisey of East Falmouth, Mass., and Bob Corriveau of North Falmouth, Mass. She is also survived by one daughter, Lea Ouellette and her husband, Donald, of Vernon, Vt.; one son, Michael Violette and his wife, Sharon, of Winslow; four grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren Violette and Naomi Lagasse and Melissa Boyd; four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sarah Lagasse, Logan and Ryan Boyd. Relatives and friends may call 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, until time of service at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
