WESLEY ‘JUNIOR’ PORTER PATTEN – Wesley “Junior” Porter, 81, passed away doing what he enjoyed, “fishing”, Sept. 21, 2005. He was born May 24, 1924, in Mount Chase, the son of Wesley Porter Sr. and Eva (Giles) (Porter) Estabrook. He married Frances Hulbert in 1953. He was a veteran of World War II. Jr. enjoyed hunting, fishing, his trip to Alaska with his two brothers, and he was an expert marksman and was often asked to sight in guns. Each year he set aside one week to go to hunting camp with Gene Sargent. His other hobbies included reloading bullets, collecting old coins and bills, cameras and his computer. He enjoyed his garden and always had a wonderful harvest. Jr. was a skilled mechanic and had worked at Porter’s Woodworking as a designer. He was a member of the Katahdin Lodge No. 98 AF & AM, Anah Shriners and the Northern Penobscot Shrine Club. In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by five children, Rae and her husband, Cole Lamoreau, of Easton, Vanessa and her husband, Bruce Shirland, of Old Town, Elaine Pipes of Crystal, Steven and Leslie Porter of Patten; two special grandchildren, Eric and his wife, Crystal, of Patten, and Andrea Pipes of Mattawamkeag and their father, Billy Pipes; four brothers, Raymond, Clint, Arnold and Robert; three sisters, Maxine, Erma and Betty; several nieces and nephews and cousins and inlaws and his chocolate lab, “Taffy”. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, with Katahdin Lodge conducting Masonic services at 7 p.m. where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. James Flye officiating. Interment will be in the Patten Cemetery. Jr. will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
