BLUE HILL – Wilbert Henry Hatch Sr. died peacefully Oct. 14, 2004, at Penobscot Nursing Home. He was born on Dec. 17, 1918, in East Knox, the son of Robert Alvin and Lilla Maggie (Whitcomb) Hatch. Wilbert was the eldest son of a large family. He quit school at an early age to work and help support them. In the late 30’s, he joined the CCC’s, helping to build roads and bridges, working with the army engineers. In 1942, he met and married Ada Mae Frazier. They enjoyed 32 wonderful years prior to her death in 1974. Wilbert was a simple man of simple means, working on farms, logging and working in sawmills. He was predeceased by his wife, Ada; three brothers, Clyde, Roy and Walter Hatch; two sisters, Ivy Suitor and Millie Alley. He is survived by his sons, Wilbert Jr. of Penobscot, Robert and his wife, Susan of Blue Hill; two grandchildren, Eddie Hatch and wife, Crystal, Frannie Day and husband, Eric; five great-grandchildren, Cole, Grace and Camden Hatch, Naomi and Aiden Day; one sister, Doris Light; brother, Robert N. Hatch; six half sisters, Nora, Christina, Olive, Roberta, Mabel and Fannie; many, many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Mountain View Cemetery, Blue Hill. Arrangements by Acadia Burial & Cremation Direct, PO Box 99, Mt. Desert, ME 04660.
