BROOKLIN – William “Bill” Randall, 56, died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, of a cerebral hemorrhage at home Bill was born May 2, 1949, to William and Margaret (Hambright) Randall He grew up in Detroit and St. Claire Shores, Michigan. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and went on to work for over 20 years as an auto mechanic and technical writer. In 1997, Bill and his wife, Nancy, moved to Maine and purchased the Morning Moon Cafe in Brooklin. Bill was at his best in the Morning Moon where he heckled customers as readily as he served them coffee, and he had a special rapport with babies and the elderly. He was a steadfast, supportive husband and father. He made wonderful pizza, could repair anything, was playful with children and dogs, and was blissfully unencumbered by anxieties even while carrying out his work responsibilities in the cafe and community. His easygoing nature and tender heart, disguised under a gruff exterior, were gems for all who knew him well enough to find them. Bill is survived by his wife Nancy; children John, Nick, Chris, Sara, Amanda and Kim; a sister, Lucinda Lienau; three grandchildren; and stepson, Andrew Borromey. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Pamela. A supper and celebration of Bill’s life will be held 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at the Odd Fellows Hall, Route 175, Brooklin.
