WILLIAM CROWE GOULDSBORO – William Crowe, founder, publisher and editor of the Fishermen’s Voice, a commercial fishing newspaper that advocated for the fishermen of Maine, died Jan. 28, 2006, at his home in Gouldsboro, after a long effort to survive cancer. Born April 5, 1947, in Waltham, Mass. Bill graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1970, with a degree in business administration. Among other activities there, he was the coxswain on the university’s crew team. He built a home in Willimantic, in the 1970’s, southeast of the ancestral family farm in southern Aroostook County. He later lived and had businesses in San Francisco and western Massachusetts, before moving to Gouldsboro in 1990. After lobster and scallop fishing, he sold seafood and began publishing the Fishermen’s Voice. His unbounded energy, integrity, ability, friendliness and commitment to the fishing industry made him and his paper widely respected. He will be greatly missed by his many friends. A service will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Hammond Hall, Winter Harbor.
