HOLDEN – William D. Carleton, 92, husband of the late Dorathy (Curtis) Carleton, died Nov. 30, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 1, 1915, in Forest Hills, Mass., the son of Reuben and Effie (Wentworth) Carleton. William was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Ardennes and Rhineland, where he earned a Purple Heart. He worked as a woodsman most of his life for Jim Yeaton and Davis & Simons Lumber Co. Surviving are four children, William A. Carleton and his wife, Maryann, of Phelan, Calif., Rita E. Luce and her husband, Robert, of Holden, Marie A. Smith and her husband, Eugene, of Marino Valley, Calif., and Oren L. Carleton of Charlestown, N.H.; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; a cousin, Muriel Frati of Bangor. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years; and by a grandson, Robert Luce Jr. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Patricia Moore, pastor of Milford Congregational Church, presiding. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Etna. Condolences may also be offered at www.kileyfunerlhome.com.
