WILLIAM J. BENDERY BANGOR – William J. Bendery, 96, husband of Virginia (Greene) Ben-dery, died Jan. 16, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare center. He was born May 6, 1907, in Boston, Mass., the son of Joseph and Frances (Oberon) Bendery. Mr. Bendery was a Veteran of World War II. He was formerly a manager of the Northern Dental Laboratory. Later he became associated with Dr. John W. Brookings DMD, as a certified dental technician until his retirement. He was a member of Hammond St. Congregational Church, having served the church in many capacities. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 12 and the DAV. Mr. Bendery was a member and past master of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10 AF & AM, St. John’s Commandery No. 3, Bangor Council No. 5, and R & S Masters all of Bangor, and the St. Stephens Royal Arch Chapter in Quincy, Mass. Mr. Bendery was a member of the Anah Shriners, the past masters unit and the Bangor-Brewer Shrine Club. While in the shrine, he was a technician and he set up and operated the sound system. Mr. Bendery was a member and Past Patron of Tuscan Chapter No. 148 OES of Bangor. He was active in ham radio operation and was known as KIDUI. He was a member of the Pine State Amateur Radio Club, the Pine State Ten-Ten Club and the American Radio Relay League. Surviving are his wife, Virginia of Bangor; a son, Ernie Messer of Ellsworth; and a daughter, Elaine Brunkhardt of Ft. Collins, Colo.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Martel and Evelyn Kenney, both of Framingham, Mass.; a niece and a nephew. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Dr. Mark Doty, pastor of Hammond St. Congregational Church officiating. Spring interment will be in the Rural Grove Cemetery, Dover Foxcroft.
