OLD TOWN – Helen M. Abbott, 82, beloved wife of the late Warren A. Abbott, died peacefully Dec. 6, 2003, at an Orono health care facility. She was born Jan. 14, 1921, in Bradley, the daughter of Alex and Lillian (Shorette) Roy. Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose home was her life. She enjoyed cooking, especially Sunday dinners. She was employed at the University of Maine for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Soule and her husband, Robert, of Meriden, Conn., Judy Finchum of Old Town; four grandchildren, Jamey Finchum and his wife, Gretchen, of Nashua, N.H., Cindi Lemery of Bradley, Michael Soule and his wife, Susan, of Meriden, Conn., and Jeffrey Soule of Meriden, Conn.; six great-grandchildren, Dustin and Jamie-Lynn Lemery, Connor Finchum, Ashley, Adam and Abbey Rowe; four sisters, Yvonne Cox and her husband, Charlie, of Orrington, Nancy Swanton and her husband, Dick, of New Hampshire, Rose Gillis and her husband, Rodric, of Maryland, Rita Sanborn of Milford; two brothers, Evan Roy and his wife, Kathleen, of Bradley, Jimmy Roy and his wife, Jean, of Milford; three special friends, Anne Hinckley, Artis Abbott and Pat Abbott. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Warren Abbott; and four brothers, Philip, Arthur, Adrien and Lionel Roy. A funeral service will be conducted 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, with the Rev. Ron Chaffee officiating.
