VEAZIE and OLD TOWN Willie James Jackson, 91, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 20, 1916, in Old Town, the son of Andrew and Charlotte (Wickett) Jackson. Willie worked for Penobscot Chemical Fiber Co., for 19 years. He started building boats in 1944 in Stillwater. In 1952 he relocated to Veazie and opened the Jackson Boat Co.; he was well known for his hand-built Jackson canoes and his friendly service. Along with building boats, he owned and operated the Kitchenette Restaurant. In the late ’60s, he purchased Big Houston Camps at Katahdin Ironworks, Brownville, where he would guide hunting parties and enjoyed time with his family and friends. Willie loved hunting and fishing at Big Houston and always had a story to tell. He is survived by his sons, Mahlon and his wife, Betty, of Stillwater and Elwyn and his wife, Sharon, of Veazie; and a daughter, Cheryl Paine and her husband, Jeff, of Holden. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sherrie Patterson, Barbara Smith, Susan Jackson, Kellie Jackson, Amy, Jessica, Kevin and Willie Paine; sister, Lynette Pete of Alton; his devoted companion, Marguerite Adams of Veazie; seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; son, Wayne F. Jackson in 2006; brother, Arthur Jackson; two sisters, Cora Kamen and Rebecca Morin; and infant son, Andrew. Willie’s family recognizes the excellent care and compassion provided by the staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center, especially CCU Staff. Family and friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday, Nov. 10, at Birmingham Funeral Home, where a funeral service will begin at noon. Private interment will be held after. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon after the services at 1265 State St., Veazie.
