ISLAND FALLS – Wilson F. Palmer, 98, died Oct. 3, 2004, at home. He was born March 4, 1906, the son of George A. and Amy Foss Palmer. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mary Erskine Palmer who died July 5, 1999. The Palmer family moved to Island Falls in 1908. He received his education at Island Falls High School, Gorham Normal School and Boston University and taught school in Maine for 12 years. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he and his wife, Mary bought the Island Falls Hardware Company and managed the business for 25 years. He was predeceased by his brothers, Phil and Kenneth. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Whittier Congregational Church, Island Falls. Mr. Palmer requested no flowers, but contributions in his memory may be made to the Whittier Congregational Church, Island Falls, ME 04747 or charity of one’s choice.
