HOLDEN – Winifred Keith Fish, 77, wife of Everard “Bud” Fish, died April 12, 2007, at a Bangor nursing home. Wini was a strong lady who, with great courage, fought cancer since November 2006, but also had endured a stroke three and a one half years ago. She was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Howland, the daughter of John Norman and Edith (Batchelder) Keith. Wini enjoyed golf, camping, tennis and RV-ing throughout the U.S. and Canada. She and her husband also enjoyed their very special friends, the four seasons and many, many others in Southwest Harbor and on the island. She graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston and later the University of Maine in Orono, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree and becoming a registered nurse. She was a registered nurse for many years in the Boston area and after moving back to Maine, became the primary operating room registered nurse at Mount Dessert Hospital, Bar Harbor. She finished her nursing career by establishing the health center at Mount Desert Island High School and working in it until her retirement. In addition to her husband, Bud of Holden, she is survived by a son, Jeffrey Fish and his wife, Lynn, of Edinburg; two grandchildren, Matthew Fish of Augusta and Jodi Bartlett and her husband, Brian and their children, Mackenzie and Tanner, of Troy, Texas; and her very special cat, Jasmine. The family especially thanks the caregivers at Stillwater Health-care, Bangor, for the excellent care that Wini received while being a resident. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with the Rev. Dana Douglass officiating. Spring interment will be at Edinburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Keith Memorial Scholarship at Penobscot Valley High School or to the American Cancer Society.
