WASHBURN – Winnefred McPherson, 79, died March 14, 2004, at a Caribou healthcare facility, surrounded by her family. She was born March 19, 1924, in St. Francis, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Landry) Ouellette. Winnefred graduated from high school and continued her education at the Madawaska Training School, where she graduated June 2, 1944. She also served her country on the home front during World War II, as a welder in the Portland shipyard. Winnefred taught elementary school for 19 years in St. Francis, Allagash, and St. Agatha. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, crocheting, reading, playing and listening to music especially classical music. She was a communicant at St, Catherine’s Catholic Church, where she was also very active teaching Sunday school and playing the church organ for 25 years. Winnefred is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eldon McPherson of Washburn; six children, Andrea Bragdon and her husband, Eugene, Wanda Bragdon and husband, Merton, Deborah McPherson, all of Washburn, Jennifer McCrea and her husband, Russell, of Salters, S.C., Vincent McPherson and his wife, Sharon, of Perham, Ralph McPherson of Washburn; a brother, Lincoln Ouellette and his wife, Dorilla, of St. Francis; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two daughters, Louise and Caroline; one brother; and five sisters. To our aunt Freda, we want to extend our heartfelt appreciation for all your love and support, thank you. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Washburn. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Scott Mower celebrant. Committal services will take place in the spring at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. The family would like to thank the Maine Veterans Home for all their kindness during this time.
