BANGOR – Woodford G. Sands, 77, husband of Gloria P. (Smith) Sands, died Feb. 19, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Caribou, the son of Woodford G. and Castella M. (Parker) Sands. Woodford served in the U.S. Navy and was a resident of the Bangor area most of his life. He worked for EB Canty Produce early in his career and worked for Hughes Bros. as a heavy equipment operator for 25 years. He was also employed as a truck driver for several years working for Pottles Trucking and for Dysarts, and also drove as an independent operator. Woodford was meticulously neat. He enjoyed stock car racing and was a New York Yankees fan. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Bangor are 11 children, Nola Atwood of Bucksport, Belinda Campbell of Brewer, Woodford “Woody” Sands and Teresa Sands, both of Bangor, Kenneth Sands of Portland, Dennis and Kevin Sands, both of Bangor, Alan Sands of Maryland, Robin Jewell of Bucksport, Holly Zapsky of Carmel, and Christine Garcelon of Kenduskeag; 18 grandchildren, seven great-grand-children; one brother, Frederick Sands of Bangor; and one sister, Geraldine Sands of Belfast. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Edith Schencks and Alta Gould; and one brother, Earl Sands. He will be remembered by dear friends, Barney Durost, Al Parent, Carl and Gloria Tyler, Rick and Joyce Dorr. Family and friends are invited for a time of visitation and fellowship 11 a.m. March 8 at Hermon Baptist Church fellowship center, Route 2, Hermon.
