ROQUES BLUFF – Zane A. Thompson, 72, passed away Aug. 12, 2006, at Hospice House, Lewiston. He was born March 29, 1934, in Bridgton, to Charles E. and Alta (Pendexter) Thompson. Zane attended schools in Bridgton and graduated from Bridgton High School, Class of 1952 as valedictorian. He graduated from the University of Maine with high honors in 1956. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa. He was also the editor of the “Prism.” He attended the London School of Economics in London, on a fullbright scholarship. He graduated from Harvard Law School. He worked for Fiduciary Trust Co. in Boston from 1963 to 1982. At the time of his retirement, he was vice president. Zane was a trust counselor. Zane was a staunch Republican. He was active in the party in Maine. Some of the many groups he had a lifetime membership in were the Maine Genealogical Society, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, the Bridgton Historical Society, the Maine Old Cemetery Association, the Library of the Boston Athenaeum, the Maine Historical Society, the Harrison Historical Society, The Nature Conservancy, The Bostonian Society, The Society of Colonial Wars, the Macfarlain Clan, the Wong Center for the Arts and the Boston Art Museum. He retired to Roques Bluff where he spent many happy years. Also he spent his winters in Punta Gorda, Fla., for several years. Genealogy had been one of his great interests since high school. He had traced our family history on both branches back to the 1600s. He had also helped others do the same. He had been especially interested in our Scottish roots and had enjoyed the gathering of the clans and their history. Zane is survived by a sister, Marilyn Leavitt of Greenville; a niece, Elizabeth Reith and her husband, Howard, along with her two children, Charles Morrill and Nichole Morrill of Lee, N.H.; nephew, Alan Leavitt and his wife, Lydia and their son, Alexander; nephew, Scott Leavitt with his wife, Helen, of Pasadena, Calif.; nephew, Patrick Mitchell and his wife, Christine, with their children of Bridgton; and a niece, Tamala Risch and her husband of Bridgton. Zane was predeceased by a brother, Charles “Peter” Thompson. He also leaves dear friends, Charles Pendexter, Cora and Nick Greer, Wilma “Pete” Marsh and Erin Pendexter A celebration of Zane’s life will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Roques Bluff Community Hall for his relatives, friends and neighbors.
