HERMON – Thelma F. (Rainey) Paquette, 87, passed away peacefully Sept. 25, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. Thelma was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Prospect, the daughter of Thomas A. and Theresa (Rose) Rainey. Thelma grew up in Prospect, where she attended schools and graduated from Stockton Springs High School, Class of 1938. She then furthered her education at Maine General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1943. She then served in the Army Nurse Corps from 1943 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater. After serving her country, she married a career military man, George A. Paquette, and spent several years moving about the country before settling in Hermon to raise their family. Thelma worked for several years as a nurse at Bangor City Hospital. When spare time allowed, Thelma loved to play bingo, travel and spend time with her family. Thelma is survived by her son, Wayne Paquette of Gorham; three daughters, Adele Richardson of Caribou, Pamela Canarelli of New Hampshire and Nancy Paquette of Hermon; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Irving C. Rainey of Prospect; as well as many nieces and nephews. Thelma was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of 63 years, George A. Paquette in 2007; and one brother, Thornton Rainey. A funeral service to celebrate Thelma’s life will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Interment will be after the funeral service at Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect. A continued time of remembrance and refreshments will be held at the home of Don and Carol Johnson, 92 Spout Hill Road, Prospect.
