LUBEC – Miss Dorothy L. Blanch, 89 years young, Lubec’s first lady of theater, died in the morning light Sept. 29, 2008, at Oceanview Nursing Home, Lubec. She was the daughter of the late John and Myrtle (Morang) Blanch. Graduating from Lubec High School in 1936, she followed her dreams of acting, going to Boston and receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree at Emerson College. Miss Blanch played at Bar Harbor Summer Theater; Off Broadway Theater, New York City; and Pasadena Theater, Pasadena, Calif. Later in life, she returned to her roots in Lubec and was active in the historical society and also pursued her passion for the theater in forming the Quoddy Players, where she directed and produced many plays for her beloved audience. She was predeceased by her sister, Ella Alley; and a nephew, Hubert Saunders. She will be greatly missed by her family, nieces, Gail L. (Saunders) O’Steen and Dawn (Saunders) O’Steen; great-nieces and great-nephews, and all her many friends. Visiting hours will be held 1 p.m. until time of funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Lubec Congregational Church with the Rev. Ed Randall officiating. Burial will be at Split Hill Cemetery, Lubec. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in her memory may do so to Lubec Congregational Church. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
