SURRY – Wayne E. McGraw, 75, died Oct. 1, 2008, at a Deer Isle nursing home. He was born Feb. 3, 1933, in Blue Hill, the son of Charles W. and Caro M. (Leach) McGraw. Wayne served 22 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring as chief warrant officer. He served in the Vietnam War. He coached basketball and baseball at George Stevens Academy and worked as a custodian for 10 years there, and as a custodian for 10 years at Surry Elementary School. Wayne was an avid Celtics and Green Bay Packers fan. His greatest joy was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Wayne was a member of the American Legion of Blue Hill. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Beverly of Blue Hill; sons, Robert of Bucksport, Clinton and wife, Kathy, of Waterboro, Dana and wife, Amy, of Ellsworth and Mark and wife, LeAnne, of Hampden; daughters, Deborah Allen and husband, Don, of Blue Hill and Holly McGraw and partner, Glen Ashe, of Penobscot; grandchildren, Kim, Jason, Nicole, Laurie, Katie, Maggie, Justin, Windi, Zack, Cody and Becca; one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah; sister, Elaine Jones and husband, Harry, of Ellsworth; nephews, Chris, Greg, Evans Jr., Jeff and Tony; and nieces, Emilie and Jennifer. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Curtis Cove, East Blue Hill, with Pastor Scott Conners officiating.
