HAMPDEN – Etta L. Petty, 59, died Oct. 3, 2008, at a local Bangor hospital after a long-term illness. She was born Dec. 5, 1948, in Bangor, the loving daughter of Leslie and Ruby (Leighton) Snyder Jr., and biological mother, Wilmah L. Chase, all of whom predeceased her. Etta was a volunteer at Manna Ministries for many years. She was two-time president of the VFW Auxiliary of Old Town. She also enjoyed teaching children’s church at Word of Life Christian Church. All the children thought of her as their “grandmother.” Etta is survived by her husband, John Petty; three stepchildren, Nicole Ramey and Nathan Petty, both of Pennsylvania and Christopher Petty of North Carolina; three stepgrandchildren, Jessica, Elizabeth and Randi, all of Pennsylvania; eight brothers and sisters, Karen Small of Greenville, Tammie Snyder, Eugene Snyder and wife, Kirstie, Teresa Snyder and boyfriend, Tim, June McDonough and husband, Steve, Robert Landry, Eddie Prendergast, all of Bangor and Robert Coon of Winterport; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and most important, all her nieces and nephews; and one special niece, Tamara, who Etta thought of as her daughter. There will be a memorial service with further details to come at a later date.
