MAXINE (JOHNSON) FITZ GLENBURN – Maxine M. Fitz, 81, wife of the late Elmer “Shorty” Fitz, died unexpectedly Oct. 7, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Bangor, the daughter of Harold J. and Frances (Quimby) Johnson. Maxine was a bus driver for the Glenburn and Levant school departments for 17 years. She was a founding member and treasurer of West Glenburn Community Club from 1962 until the present. Surviving are four children, James and his wife, Peggy Fitz, of Buxton, Edward and his wife, Sharon Fitz, Lois and her husband, Stephen Carter, and Suzanne Fitz, all of Glenburn; eight grandchildren, Sherry Roushandell, James Fitz Jr., Andrea Gooch, Amy Fitz, Tracy Smith, Denise DeRosey, Erica Walton and Jessica Poole; 16 great-grandchildren; one broth-er, William Johnson of Milford; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Geraldine Johnson; and special friends, Billy Ellingwood, Mary-Etta Adams, Joan Wiles, Geraldine Bennett, Bessie Houston, Madeline Spencer, Edi Poole and Eunice Carey. She was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Fitz Duran; a grandson, Todd J. Fitz; three brothers and one sister. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Ross Manor-Waterman Unit and St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Room staff for their kindness and care to Maxine and the family. Funeral services will be held noon Friday, Oct. 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Richard Tardiff, nephew, rector of St. Andrew’s and St. John’s Episcopal churches, Southwest Harbor, officiating. Folks are invited to call 11 a.m.-noon Friday at Brookings-Smith. Interment will be at Birch Grove Cemetery, Glenburn. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at West Glenburn Community Club, corner of Phillips Road and Ohio Street, Glenburn, after the burial.
