HOULTON – Marilyn Ann Hovey completed her earthly journey and met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Oct. 7, 2008. Marilyn fought the fight and finished the race with grace and dignity, bringing love and encouragement to all of those whose lives she touched. She was born Dec. 1, 1956, in Gagetown, New Brunswick, the daughter of Gertrude Urquhart and the late Gordon Urquhart. Marilyn loved being outdoors whether gardening, horseback riding or boating on Grand Lake with her family and friends. She rejoiced in life by serving others in her home, church and workplace. Marilyn’s valiant battle with cancer touched the lives of people across the USA and Canada as she stood strong in her faith and trust in the Lord for more than 2 1/2 years never wavering. Marilyn will be sadly missed but never forgotten by her loving husband, Brian; and her children, Matthew J. Armstrong and Taylor C. Armstrong; stepdaughters, Lindsay Hovey and Keegan Hovey of Houlton, Dara Watson, Darcie Hall and Danielle Chambers of Canada. She is survived by four brothers, Donald and Debbie of Ontario, Doug and Bernice of Whites Cove, New Brunswick, David and Donna of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Wayne of Fredericton, New Brunswick; and her sister, Judy Urquhart of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Special thanks go to the countless family and friends who supported her during her battle with esophageal cancer with a special thank you to Jane Zimmerman and Kathy Ledger of Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Aroostook County. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Oct. 9 at Houlton Wesleyan Church. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Houlton Wesleyan Church with Pastors Kevin Hatch and Randall Burns officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Marilyn had requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the following community groups: Celebrate Recovery, Pregnancy Care Center, A.S.A.P.-Aroostook Substance Abuse Prevention, Link 4 Hope and Visiting Nurses of Aroostook, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton ME 04730. Marilyn touched everyone she met with her contagious smile, exuberant love of life and her neverending love for God, may we all do our best to emulate her example.
