SANGERVILLE – Marion D. Race, 94, wife of the late George E. Race Sr., died Oct. 10, 2008, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born March 6, 1914, in Sangerville, daughter of Clifton and Lilla (Ward) Diffin. Marion was a graduate of Sangerville High School. She and her husband owned and operated Race’s Trading Post, Sangerville, for many years. She was a member of Unitarian Universalist Church of Sangerville. She was a past matron and life member of Susie Carr Chapter No. 181, Order of the Eastern Star of Sangerville, and a past appointive grand officer of the Grand Chapter of Maine, Order of the Eastern Star. Marion was a member of Mayo Regional Hospital Auxiliary and worked for many years as a volunteer. She is survived by her son and his wife, George and Letty-Ann Race Jr. of Bath; grandchildren, Karen Race and her husband, Sean Ames, of Brunswick and Brian Race of Woolwich; great-grandchildren, Aerial Richardson, Victoria Burkhart and Clifton Race, all of Brunswick, Alyssa and Tyler Ames of Bath. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband; and a grandson, Kevin Race. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Village Cemetery, Sangerville, with Pastor Daryl Witmer officiating.
