GREENVILLE, Maine — Town officials and a contractor have completed negotiations to bring the Greenville Junction renovation project under budget.

The proposed project now totals $724,750 which will allow uncoated marine-grade steel pilings around a major section of the wharf, riprap in other areas, and a precast retaining wall on a portion of the Wiggins Stream side of the wharf.

Selectmen earlier accepted the lowest bid that was submitted by Wyman and Simpson of Richmond, of $1,499,159. Town officials have about $825,000 available to rehabilitate the rotting wharf. Rather than solicit new bids, selectmen agreed to negotiate with the firm to lower costs, a move seen as acceptable by the town’s attorney and state officials, according to Town Manager John Simko.

A preconstruction meeting will be held next week.

Simko said the steel for the project is expected to be delivered the first week in December.
