BANGOR – John Vernon Graves, 87, husband of Joyce (Cooley) Graves, died Oct. 21, 2008, at a Bangor hospital after a short illness. He was born Oct. 11, 1921, the son of Gordon Perley and Mary Ann (Applebee) Graves. John called “Jack” by his family and Brownville friends, worked at NH Bragg, Bangor; Bangor Daily News and General Electric. He had recently been working part time for a local business in Bangor doing various jobs. He enjoyed time spent at his camp on Schoodic Lake, Brownville. John is survived by his wife, Joyce of Bangor; a daughter, Theresa A. Winchester and her husband, Larry; a daughter-in-law, Debra Graves; a stepson, Kevin Lowe and his wife, Cindy; six grandchildren, Brian Lee and his wife, Andrea, Mike, Heather, Kristen, Erin and Jesseca; and three great-grandchildren, Kelton, Taber and Reece. He is also survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his son, Alan M. Graves; three sisters, Nella Holmberg, Phoebe Phinney and Mary Heath; four brothers, Gordon Clouse Graves, Walter Graves, and infant brothers, twins, Don and Roy. Friends are invited to call 11 a.m. until time of funeral service noon Thursday, Oct. 23, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with the Rev. Michele St. Cyr officiating.
