BUCKSPORT – Sharyn Ann Betts, 60, died peacefully Oct. 24, 2008, at a Bangor hospital after a long, courageous battle of cancer. She was born April 25, 1948, in Bangor, daughter with Arline (Gray) Locke and the late James W. Locke. Sharyn graduated from Bucksport High School, Class of 1967. She had been involved with the town of Bucksport for a number of years, serving the town council for 16 years, a board member of the Chamber of Commerce, chaired the Waterfront Committee, was a founding member of Healthy Communities, Bucksport and was on the Bucksport Finance Committee. In her younger days, she was a Cub Scout Master, then later became a Boy Scout Leader, a Brownie Leader and also taught Sunday school at two local area churches. She is survived by her devoted husband of 14 years, David Betts; her siblings, Francis (Locke) Rankin of Lincolnville, Joanne (Locke) Pelkey of Oklahoma, Barry Locke of Bucksport and their spouses; her children, Marc Davenport and his wife, Jen, of Bucksport and Amy Grenier and her husband, Robert, of Milford; her two very special grandchildren, Kimberly and Brandon Davenport of Bucksport; many nieces and nephews and their families. Thanks to all of her loving friends that have supported her and her family. A celebration of her life will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Franklin Street United Methodist Church by Pastor Peter Remick. In lieu of flowers, Sharyn requests that donations be made to The Sharyn Betts Fund, P.O. Box 1612, Bucksport, ME 04416. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
