NORTHPORT – Daniel Wayne Landis, 60, died unexpectedly Oct. 25, 2008, at a local hospital. He was born April 17, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Charles and Nona (Bates) Landis. He was a highly decorated U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and belonged to the Military Order of Purple Hearts. Daniel worked as a welder at Bath Iron Works. He was a member of Rockland VFW Post No. 2499, United Bikers of Maine and Central Maine Harley Group. He loved hunting and bow hunting, playing Santa Claus for the kids, riding his Harley, and his little dog, Dixie. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Gayle Landis of Northport; his daughter, Danielle Landis of Thorndike; his son, Daniel Landis II and his wife, Amber, of Northport; two brothers, Warren Landis and Dwight Landis, both of Ohio; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be afterward at Jackson Corner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
