RIPLEY – Thornton Eugene Gould, “Gene,” 75, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield. Gene was born May 31, 1933, in Ripley, the son of Guy and Thelma (Leo) Gould. Gene attended school in Ripley. He worked in the woods most of his life and in later years he worked the blueberry fields in the Downeast area. He served our country in the U.S. Army. He loved to hunt and fish. He was famous for his storytelling and his greatest joy was his grandkids. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Penny; his six children, Michael Gould and his companion, Gail, of Kenduskeag, Francis and her husband, Bobby Peachey, of Guilford, Mary and her husband, Clyde Mason, of Plymouth, Rosemary and her husband, Carl Jewel, of Detroit, Eugena and her husband, Kevin Gray of Hermon and Gerald Gould and his companion, Becky, of Corinna; a daughter-in-law, Victoria Gould of Dover-Foxcroft; his sister, Arlene and her husband, Everett Pullen; 20 grandchildren, Stacy, Tara, David, Timmy, Jessie, Byran, Caitlyn, Caleb, Brianna, Mathew, Jennilyn, Ashley, Anita, Greg, Ben, Samara, Amber, Gerald, Justin and Ricky; four great-grandsons, Jimmy, Justin, Micah and Noah; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Gerald, Albert and Milton; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Allen, Colby, Lester and his wife, Kelly, and Eugene; and a daughter, Michele. Gene had many friends and the family would like to thank a few special ones that came to visit him often: Merle Hurd, John Day, Mike Cookson, Roger Drazek and Warren Peterson. A receiving of friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Interment will be afterward at West Ripley Cemetery, State Route 154, Ripley.
