WASHBURN – James Humphrey, 85, husband of the late Virginia Humphrey died Nov. 3, 2008, in Bangor. He was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Washburn, the son of the late Alexander and Lydia (Bennett) Humphrey. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a longtime member of Lidstone United Methodist Church, Washburn. Mr. Humphrey was employed as the field department manager and the potato buyer at Birds Eye Div. of General Foods for many years, as well as at Potato Service and Interstate Foods. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James and Cindy Humphrey of Presque Isle; two brothers, Alexander “Alec” Humphrey of Rose Budd, Ark., and Fredrick Martin of Washburn; two sisters, Mildred Duncan of Massachusetts and Marion Boyce of Washburn; four grandchildren, Matthew Humphrey, Jason White, Bradley Humphrey and Jonathan Humphrey; one great-grandchild, Jordan Humphrey; a special sister-in-law, Sue Sands of Woodland; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Humphrey was predeceased by his wife, Virginia (Thompson) Humphrey, in 2007; and a sister, Joan Parker. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Lidstone United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dorothy Matson officiating.
