DOVER-FOXCROFT and NORTH CONWAY, N.H. – Elsie Dewey Preble, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Nov. 4, 2008, at a North Conway, N.H., nursing home. She was born June 6, 1919, in East Winn, the daughter of Susan Trott and Hersey Crocker. She married Leroy Gaines Dewey Jr., October 1947. He predeceased her in July 1973. She married Harold Preble, July 1983. He predeceased her Nov. 9, 2001. She was an avid quilter and knitter, attending quilt shows in the area. She worked at Newberry’s, Dover-Foxcroft. She was a member of the choir at United Methodist Church, Dover-Foxcroft. She and Harold were members of the 3M Club. She is survived by her children, Patricia Ann Dewey-Dauphinais of Old Town and Leroy G. Dewey III and wife, Linda, of North Conway, N.H.; and stepchildren, Marilee Hurlburt and her husband, Nathan of Kingman, Ariz., and Gary Preble of Wheaton, Md. She is survived by grandchildren, Robert J. Dauphinais and wife, Stephanie, of Grand Canyon, Ariz., Lisa Dauphinais Bragg and husband, Donald, of Old Town, Sarah Sylvia Bobiak and husband, John, of East Windsor, N.J., Nathan Dewey of North Conway, N.H., Richard Hurlburt and his wife of San Francisco, and Todd and Christopher Preble; and great-grandchildren, Jessyka Dauphinais, Travis Dauphinais, Carlianne Dauphinais, Angelina Dauphinais, Jason Bragg, Gabriella Grace Bobiak and Griffin Bobiak. She was predeceased by daughter, Suzanne Dewey Sylvia, July 2007. The Rev. Dodie Sheffield will officiate at the funeral service 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at United Methodist Church, Dover-Foxcroft. Elsie will be interred next to her husband, Leroy Dewey, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Dover South Mills, after the church service.
