CALAIS – June W. Howland, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at a Calais nursing home. June was born Aug. 19, 1921, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, daughter of the late Edward and Florence (Larner) Williamson. She graduated from Calais Academy, Class of 1939 and went on to graduate from Holy Rosary Business School, St. Stephen, New Brunswick. In 1941 June married Harold Howland. After Harold returned from the war, they moved to Portland, where they lived for several years before returning home to Calais. June was employed at Calais Free Library for many years and later volunteered as an activity assistant for Barnard’s Nursing Home. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and member of First Congregational Church, where she served as a deacon and was a member of Women’s Association. June enjoyed reading, playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, June was predeceased by her husband, Harold in 1978. Surviving are three daughters, Gloria Taylor of Pittsfield, Mass., Sharon Howland of Waltham, Mass., and Gayle Moholland and her husband, Bob, of Baileyville; five grandchildren, Lisa Taylor of Cape Coral, Fla., Karen Dapper and her husband, John, of Pittsfield, Mass., Robert E. Moholland Sr. and his wife, Janet, of Charlotte, Rebecca Ireland and her husband, Wayne, of Edinburg and Amanda Curran and her husband, Jay, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick; and nine great-grandchildren, Jesseca Dapper, Felicia and Robert Moholland Jr., Samantha, Alexis, Emilee and Reed Ireland, and Jayden and Ethan Curran. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church, 21 Calais Ave., Calais. Burial will be afterward at Calais Cemetery.
