HARTLAND – Michael David Snowman, 49, died Nov. 17, 2008, at a Bangor hospital, after his collapse while fighting a house fire in Detroit. Mike died in the line of duty doing what he loved to do, helping others as a fireman. He was born Nov. 23, 1958, in Waterville, the son of Daniel W. and Marion (Case) Snowman. Mike attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1978. Michael married Laureen Cota, June 17, 1978, in Pittsfield. He was a six-year U.S. Army veteran with three years foreign service. Mike was a propane service technician for many years and for the past 11 years he had been employed at Amerigas Propane, Pittsfield. He was a member of Hartland Baptist Church, where he was the Sunday school superintendent. Mike was a very proud and dedicated 25-year member of Hartland Volunteer Fire Department. He served as the secretary-treasure, fire police and safety officer. He was an avid golfer. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Laureen B. Snowman of Hartland; his mother, Marion C. Snowman of Plant City, Fla.; two sons and their wives, Joshua and Samantha Snowman of Palmyra, and Benjamin and Jennifer Snowman of Canaan; one daughter and her husband, Emily and Timothy Ryan of San Antonio; two brothers and their wives, Thomas and Pamela Snowman of Newport, and Mark and Audrey Snowman of Palmyra; five grandchildren, Ellie, Elizabeth, Kiera, Richard and Carolyn; a special uncle, David Snowman of Palmyra; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Mike’s life with full fire department honors will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Hartland Baptist Church with the Rev. David Michaud officiating. Burial will be afterwards in the family lot at Village Cemetery, Detroit. The family respectfully asks that instead of a lot of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial donations to Hartland Baptist Church to benefit youth activities.
