AUGUSTA – Roland Paul Ouellette, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Glenridge Drive, Augusta. He was born April 23, 1929, in Lewiston, the son of Roland Philleos Ouellette and Hazel (Grace) Ouellette. Paul was a graduate of Morse High School, where he was team captain of the 1947 Western Maine championship basketball team. He went on to attend Ricker College and later graduate from Farmington Teachers College. He played semi-pro basketball for the Elks to benefit crippled children and also played in the Eagles Industrial League at the YMCA, Bath. Mr. Ouellette was a teacher, assistant principal and later principal at Jay High School, retiring in 1985. He coached basketball, football and baseball throughout his career. He was a member of the Maine Teachers Association and served on the executive committee. He was known as a dedicated family man and was particularly devoted to his grandchildren. Paul was recently predeceased by his sister, Paulyne Pulsifer. He is survived by his wife, Marian K. (Zwemer) Ouellette of Augusta; his daughter, Rebecca J. Wetherbee and her husband, Paul, and their children, Katie and Bill of Veazie; his stepdaughter, Ann Marie Bourque and her husband, Michael and their children, Jacob and Steven of West Gardiner; stepsons, Nathan Marvin and his wife, Lisa Damon-Marvin, and children, Adrienne and Zach of Tenants Harbor; H. Bruce Marvin and his wife, Paula, and child, Madeline of Seattle; and Richard K. Marvin and his wife, Youning, and children, Hannah and Brendan of Corvallis; his brother-in-law, John Pulsifer of Cape Elizabeth; and his niece, Michelle Gordon and her husband, Peter, and their children, Mike, Chris and Sammy of South Portland. Paul’s family thanks the staff at Glenridge. During the last few difficult days, they were a constant source of care, comfort and support. There will be a memorial celebration of Paul’s life 1 p.m. Wednesday at South Parish Congregational Church, U.C.C., Church Street, Augusta.
