EASTBROOK – Rita Davis Welch, 93, passed away peacefully Nov. 22, 2008, at Mount Desert Island Hospital with her family by her side. She was born Oct. 7, 1915, the daughter of William and Mabel (Giles) Davis. Rita was a graduate of Ellsworth High School, Class of 1932. She worked for many years at New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. She adored her family and enjoyed taking part in all the Davis family get-togethers. She leaves to mourn her loss: her son, Richard Welch and soul mate, Nancy King, of Eastbrook; her daughter, Sally Welch Jordan of Ellsworth; her grandchildren, Robin Beal and husband, Charlie, Richard Jordan and girlfriend, Jennifer Madore, John Welch and wife, Renata; and her great-grandchildren, Matthew Hudson, Kristin Beal, James Welch Jr. and John Welch III. Also surviving are her sisters, Annie Huggins of Bucksport, Florence Kittredge of Tucson, Ariz., Sylvia Pierce and husband, Harrison, of North Stonington, Conn., and Elsie Davis of Ellsworth; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John Elmer Welch; her brother, William Davis; a grandson, James Welch; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Jordan. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Mount Desert Island Hospital for their care and compassion given to mom in her final days, and a special thanks to her caregiver, Barbara Hillock, who cared for mom with such love and kindness. A memorial service will be held in the spring and announced by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
