BANGOR, Maine — Gordon College’s men’s basketball team pulled away from Husson University in the second half, and the Fighting Scots made some key shots down the stretch to hold off the host Eagles 88-73 in a nonconference game at Newman Gymnasium Tuesday evening.

Coach Warren Caruso’s Eagles could never settle into an offensive rhythm thanks to Gordon’s size advantage and its stout man-to-man defense, and Husson shot only 41 percent (25-61) from the floor for the game.

The 5-0 Fighting Scots of Wenham, Mass., exploited Husson’s lack of size multiple times on the offensive end, with guards Brady Bajema and Aaron Trigg dominating on the baseline.

Husson trailed only 40-36 at halftime, but Gordon stretched the lead to 69-58 by the 10:20 mark.

The Eagles (0-3) didn’t get closer than eight points after that.

Greg Walker led three Scots in double figures with 23 points while Trigg connected for 21 and Bajema 15, respectively.

Gordon outrebounded Husson 38-22.

Brock Bradford of Kenduskeag’s game-high 24 points led the Eagles while Scott Kissinger added 13 and Matt McKenzie 12, respectively.

The Scots never trailed after Trigg’s one-handed runner in the lane with 11:01 to play in the first half.
