BANGOR – Theresa A. Rakestraw, 63, died Nov. 29, 2008, at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. She was born Aug. 10, 1945, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, daughter of Francis M. and Rose (Labrador) Francis. For the past several years, Theresa has knit 100 hats through the years and at Christmas time given half to the Salvation Army and half to area shelters. Theresa was known to the folks at CancerCare of Maine as the “Miracle Lady.” She was dearly loved by her family and will be deeply missed. Surviving are her husband, Herbert Rakestraw; six children, Corrina Porto, James Sherwood, Arnold Sherwood, Francis Sherwood, Alberta Rakestraw and Herbie Rakestraw; two grandsons, Anthony Porto and Nicholas Porto; sister, Pauline Bartlett; several nieces; her best friend, Linda Ganglfinger; and her canine best friend, Sam. Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Capts. Josh and Catherine Lyle, of the Salvation Army, officiating.
