BANGOR – Marjorie D. “Marge” Phillips, 81, died peacefully Dec. 6, 2008, surrounded by those who loved and cared for her, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Dec. 16, 1926, in East Peru, the daughter of Dwight and Effie (Booker) Bigelow. Marge had a keen knowledge of the Greater Bangor area as she was employed for many years delivering pharmaceuticals for her employers, Ohmart & Hinckley, Downeast Pharmacy and Miller Drug. She also made many friends and acquaintances delivering for several florists. People would often call her to get directions to locations in the area. She had great affection for her pets and was an ardent supporter of Bangor Humane Society. At Christmas time, in fact, it was always her wish for friends and family to donate for animal welfare in lieu of receiving gifts herself. She especially enjoyed going to camp on Harriman Pond, where she would relax, feed the animals and listen to the loons calling. Marge was an avid supporter of local arts and sports, and through the years she regularly attended activities of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by three sons, Kevin and his wife, Jane, of Bangor, Dennis of Warren and Les of Newport, Ark.; her daughter, Marilynn Bishop and her husband, Randy, of Veazie; three grandchildren, Sara Lyn Phillips, Jessica Bishop and Matthew Bishop; her sister, Rita Bigelow of Bangor; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Anne Shepley. She was predeceased by her son, Calvin; and her sister, Eleanor. The family is extremely grateful to the entire staff of Stillwater Health Care for their loving attention and care. Private interment for the family will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery. If you would like to remember Marge in a special way, gifts in her memory may be sent to Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401 or Stillwater Health Care Activities Fund, 335 Stillwater Ave., Bangor, ME 04401. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
