WINTERPORT – Natella M. Chamberlain, 84, passed away Dec. 6, 2008, surrounded by her three loving daughters. Natella was born Oct. 2, 1924, to Julia and William Booth. She and her two brothers, Arthur and Robert, grew up in Lexington, Mass. Nat was happily married to James T. Chamberlain for 52 years before he passed away in 2000. When first married, they lived briefly in Arlington, Mass., before settling in Reading, Mass., to raise their family of three girls: Carol L. Bossardt, Christine Chamberlain and Ellen J. Groleau, all of Maine. For many years Nat was active in the Reading School System, working as a secretary at Barrows School and Coolidge Junior High School, and also with special services at Reading Memorial High School. Natella was proud of her many years of volunteer work at Winchester Hospital, Winchester, Mass. In addition to working, Nat loved being a full-time mom to her girls when they were young. Her creativity and talent were seen in her skill at sewing children’s clothes, braiding wool rugs and tole painting. Her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were a source of joy to Nat and they will miss her wit and comforting nature. During the last six years of her life, Nat struggled with Alzheimer’s disease. Her family embraced her with dignity and respect as she shared the last few years with them in Maine. We will always remember her smiles. We give special thanks to the staff at Westgate Manor, Bangor, for their compassionate care and respectfulness during the last nine months of Natella’s life. Friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St., corner of Woburn Street, Reading, Mass., where services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be at Westview Cementery, Lexington, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winchester Hospital, 41 Highland Ave., Winchester, MA 01890 or the Maine Alzheimer’s Association, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101.
