BUCKSPORT – Rod R. Hutchins, 69, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Oct. 17, 1939, the son of Alden and Marguerite (Sampson) Hutchins in Montville. Rod served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 as a paramedic. After the Army he became a registered nurse and worked in intensive care unit at Eastern Maine Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital. Rod loved photography, hiking and kayaking. He also had a great love of animals and was an avid Red Sox’s fan. Rod is survived by and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Gina Hutchins of Bucksport; his faithful canine companion, Toby; one son, Larry and his wife, Marcia Ellis, of Northport; one sister, Lois Zezima of Montville; nephews, Tommy and Sandy; as well as two great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. A private graveside service will be conducted in the spring at Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Due to Rod’s loving and generous spirit, in lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations in Rod’s memory to be made to the A.S.P.C.A. by calling 1-800-628-0028. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
