Friends and co-workers are hosting a benefit spaghetti supper and auction for Jim McPhearson and family from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Suzanne M. Smith Elementary School in Levant.

Donations for adults are $6 and $3 for children. Donation for a family of four is $15.

Presale tickets are available by calling McPhearson’s mother-in-law, Annie King, at 884-4001.

A silent auction followed by a live auction begins at 7 p.m., and “we have had many wonderful items donated so far,” King wrote.

“It does renew your faith in mankind, but we would expect no less from fellow Mainers,” she said.

McPhearson, who is 40, and his wife, Kathy McPhearson, have three children.

When he was a 3-year-old, King said, McPhearson had brain cancer, requiring surgery and radiation.

Recently he was diagnosed with brain cancer again and underwent surgery in October.

This week he will be receiving treatment in Boston.

Anyone who wants updates on his condition can visit Caring Bridges/Jim McPhearson, King said.

Conductor Joshua Schmersal and members of the Bangor Community Chorus invite you to their annual Holiday Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at First United Methodist Church, 793 Essex St., Bangor.

Although this is a free concert, “a suggested donation of $5 would be gratefully appreciated,” wrote Carolyn McKinnon, adding that refreshments will be served.

She went on to say that the 26-person, mixed-member chorus accompanied by pianist Colin Graebert, will present a very special program.

This is the fifth holiday concert under the leadership of Schmersal, while Graebert signed on as the accompanist last year, McKinnon said.

“In observance of this historic election year,” McKinnon wrote, “the Chorus has chosen ‘Patriotism’ as its special theme.

“Songs paying tribute to our country and its presidents, past and present, as well as saluting our Armed Forces, will be presented.

“Especially featured will be a musical journey across America by way of a medley of many of our nation’s most beloved and enduring songs.”
