FORT KENT – Rita May (Higgins) Lord, 67, wife of Harold Lord, died Dec. 3, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 9, 1941, in Portland, the daughter of Thomas and Edmay Higgins. Family and horses consumed her life. After retiring from Eagle Lake Nursing Home, she devoted her time, with love and care, to her husband, daughter and grandchildren on their horse farm in Fort Kent. We will miss her beautiful smile and laughter. She is survived by her husband, Harold Lord of Fort Kent; one daughter, Mae Wardwell of Danforth; two grandchildren, Heather and Holly Hafford of Fort Kent; one great-grandchild, Hailey Lafrance of Fort Kent; one sister and four brothers, Constance Smith and her husband, Mark, of Bangor, Thomas Higgins and his wife, Sharon, of Holden, Art Higgins and his wife, Donna, of Belgrade, Joe Higgins and his wife, Shirley, of Bangor and David Higgins and his wife, Lorna, of Holden; eight nieces and nephews, a large number of Higgins relatives; and three special aunts, June Voisine of Fort Kent, Claudette Wood of Augusta and Christine Grover of Ashland. A private service of remembrance will be held in the spring.
