BREWER – Perley H. Sutherland, 76, husband of Eleanor M. (Worster) Sutherland, died unexpectedly Dec. 15, 2008, at his home. He was born April 5, 1932, in Carroll Plantation, the son of Archie and Mary (Osgood) Sutherland. Perley served in the U.S. Army in Europe during the Korean War and worked as a truck driver most of his life retiring from Dysart’s in 1994. He spent winters in Winter Haven, Fla. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 1761, Bangor; the Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10, AF & AM, Bangor; and Anah Temple Shrine. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Brewer are three children, Scott Sutherland and his wife, Beth, of Eddington, Kelley Bernard and her husband, Anthony, of Winslow, and Gary Sutherland and his companion, Janice Woods, of Brewer; three grandchildren, Shawn Sutherland, Kaitlyn Bernard and Maeghan Bernard; three brothers, Claire Sutherland and his wife, Geraldine, of Enfield, Ray Sutherland and his wife, Marilyn, of Lincoln, and Barrie Sutherland and his wife, Joyce, of Enfield; several nieces and nephews. A service honoring Perley’s life will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, with the Rev. George E. Curtis, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Brewer, presiding. Family and friends may visit 5 p.m. until the service begins. Burial will be at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
