CHAPMAN and LAPLATA, Md. – Clarice Evelyn (Hartford) Denny, 91, died Dec. 29, 2008, at her home in LaPlata, Md. Mrs. Denny, one of 11 children, was born in Chapman, to Melzer E. and Georgia H. Hartford. She was a longtime member of Indian Head Baptist Church in Maryland, where she was a deaconess and served many years volunteering in the church kitchen; was active in 60 Club of Indian Head; and conducted her own shut-in visitation ministry. She was known by all of her family and members of her church family for sending greeting cards to each one for birthdays, anniversaries, illnesses, etc. She was predeceased by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters; as well as her infant daughter, Shelby Jean, in Maine, in 1943; her husband, George Denny Sr., in Maryland, in 1988; and eldest son, Gary, in Virginia, in 2002. She is survived by her sons, George Jr. of Brentwood, Md., and Robert of Ripley, Md.; daughters-in-law, Virginia, Judy and Jean; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Indian Head Baptist Church, Indian Head, Md., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, with Pastor Jeff Dwyer officiating.
