STEUBEN – Phyllis Gordon Richardson, 80, died peacefully Dec. 24, 2008, at Mystic Manor Nursing Home, Mystic, Conn. She was born July 27, 1928, in Bar Harbor, the youngest daughter of the late Hyman H. and Vina Rubenstein Gordon. She graduated as valedictorian from Mount Desert Island School, Class of 1946. She worked in an insurance agency in Bar Harbor prior to her marriage to Wallace M. Richardson Jr., Nov. 30, 1952. They had resided at Otter Creek until moving to Connecticut in 1962. She worked for many years for Travelers Insurance, until her semi-retirement in 1977, thereafter locating to Steuben and enjoyed many years of lobster fishing and their beloved Down East. They also traveled for many years as snowbirds to Florida and lived the good life. Phyllis was kind, warm and compassionate. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile on her face. She especially enjoyed the sea, sunny Florida, and was artistic and creative in too many ways to list. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and their spouses, Kathy L. and Vinie Fasseas of Daytona Beach, Fla., Julie V. and Steve Borkowski of Fort Myers, Fla., Wendy and Vern E. McLean of Groton, Conn., and Mark C. Richardson of Montville, Conn. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jennifer Jessee, Jason Flynn, Douglas, Deborah and Charles McLean, Kyle and Chris Richardson, along with two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Irving and Philip Gordon. Phyllis’ family thanks the staff and special caregivers at Mystic Manor for the care she received. Arrangements for a funeral and burial will take place in Maine in 2009, and will be announced at that time. Donations in her memory may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
