FORT FAIRFIELD – Mrs. Gertrude Catherine Dewley, 88, wife of the late Roy K. Dewley, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 4, 2009, at a Presque Isle health care facility after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Fort Fairfield, where she was raised, the daughter of Hurbert E. and Mary Ann (Maskell) Giggey. Gertrude was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1939, and married Roy K. Dewley, March 19, 1940. She worked as a librarian at Fort Fairfield High School for many years and continued to live a full and busy life for the remainder of her 88 years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dewley was predeceased by her husband, Roy, Oct. 29, 1980; and two sisters, Alfreda Palmer and Mary Joyce De Merchant. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Dewley Morton and her husband, Edwin “Skip” of Lincoln, Calif., and Marilyn Dewley Wigeri van Edema and her husband, Emile, of Homosassa, Fla.; one sister, Elouise F. Helstrom of Fort Fairfield; two grandchildren, Melody Eveland and her husband, Ken, of San Jose, Calif., and Kyle Morton and his wife, Shannon, of Discovery Bay, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Chance and Drake Fullmer, Alaya Eveland, all of San Jose, Calif., and Avery and Carter Morton, both of Discovery Bay, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Community Wesleyan Church, 9 Wesleyan St., Fort Fairfield, with Pastor Dee Lower officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral service in the church reception area. Interment will take place later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
