WELLS, Maine — Investigators say a Maine woman set a fire in her apartment that left her husband with burns over 85 percent of his body.

A neighbor says 39-year-old Christopher Spampinato of Wells was on fire when he ran from the building and that he rolled in snow to put out the flames. He was badly burned and sitting on the apartment’s front steps when firefighters arrived. He’s now being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital.

According to police and fire investigators, Kimberly Spampinato used a flammable liquid to set the fire while her husband slept early Thursday. She turned herself in after the fire and was charged with arson and with violating bail conditions related to a domestic violence arrest in October.
