BANGOR – Mildred F. (Shane) Self, 96, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born July 10, 1912, in Plainfield, Ind., daughter of George and Isabelle (Moore) Shane. Mildred grew up in Indiana and moved to Maine in 1983. She enjoyed a career as a seamstress and had many hobbies, including crocheting and putting together puzzles. She will always be remembered as an amazing cook. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Helen Lane of Bangor; sons, Harold Self of El Paso, Texas, and Thomas Self and his wife, Mabel, of Ephata, Pa.; sisters, Toots, Maxine, Mary Ann and Virginia Rose; grandchildren, Robin, Barbara, Jesse, Jeff, Larry and Jimmy; 11 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mildred was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Loren Self; son-in-law, Jesse Lane; brothers, Bud, Bob and Cleo; and sisters, Zula and Marie. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Millinocket Cemetery, Millinocket.
