BANGOR – Donna S. Holyoke, 68, wife of 50 years to Wayne F. Holyoke, died Jan. 13, 2009, after a long illness. She was born Aug. 20, 1940, in East Corinth, the daughter of Ralph M. and Hazel (Clapp) Goodwin. Donna graduated from Bangor High School and State of Maine Nursing Program. She worked as an LPN for more than 15 years at Bangor State Hospital and Eastern Maine General Hospital, helping start up the ICU and Psych Units. For more than 25 years, Donna provided child care, which she considered “a work of heart,” keeping children safe, loved and well cared for at all times. Donna was an active member of First Baptist Church, was deaconess emeritus, and held numerous positions, including Sunday school superintendent, Vacation Bible School, Mission Christian Education Board member, trustee chair, social committee and choir director selection committee. Donna spent many years as a troop leader for both Cub and Girl Scouts, and served as a board member and volunteer, with her husband, Wayne, of The Curran Homestead Living History Farm & Museum, Orrington. Surviving, in addition to her husband, Wayne; are four children, Bruce Holyoke and his wife, Charlene, of Bangor, Kavin Holyoke and his wife, Michele, of Brewer, Karen Marsters and her husband, Irv, of Glenburn and Brian Holyoke and his wife, Veronica, of Houlton; two grandchildren, Crystal of Bangor and Craig Laplante of Lewiston; siblings, Phyllis Garnett of Georgia, Winnifred Strout and her husband, Edgar, of Easton, Laurice Goodwin and his wife, Joyce, of Orono, Donn Goodwin of Eddington, Gretchen Dupuis of Bangor and Rhoda Turner and her husband, Ed, of Bangor; two sisters-in-law, Sheila Goodwin of Bangor and Diane Goodwin of Palmyra; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four siblings, Beverly Goodwin, Ralph M. Goodwin Jr., Edwin Goodwin and Robert Goodwin; and a sister-in-law, Faustine Goodwin. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at First Baptist Church, 56 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Stephanie Salinas, pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Robert Beaumont officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the vestry after the service. Spring interment will be at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth.
