FORT KENT – Roland Dubois, 63, died and began his fifth day Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at his home, after a courageous battle with esophageal and stomach cancer. He was born May 10, 1945, in Fort Kent, son of the late Hector “Babe” and the late Egline (Madore) Dubois. He was a graduate of Fort Kent High School and served eight years in the military. He worked as a long haul truck driver for Chamberland for 21 years until he became ill. He had logged 5.5 million accident free miles. The Chamberland’s were very special people to work for. He was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1934, a member of L’Union St. Jean Baptiste and he belonged to American Legion Post No. 133. He was a former member of Fort Kent Golf Club. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Roland loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed playing board games and cards. He loved to travel and had special memories of his trip to Alaska. He was also an avid reader and liked to spend time working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bernadette (Michaud) Dubois; one daughter, Beverly and her husband, Bruce MacNeill, of Lewiston; two sons, Kevin Dubois of Fort Kent and Steven Dubois of Lisbon Falls; two very special grandchildren, Heather and Tyler MacNeill; two sisters, Rinette and her husband, Doug Bacon, of Virginia and Jenny and her husband, Reno “Biz” Gagnon, of Frenchville. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws, who were all special to him. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday until the time of service at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial with full military and fourth degree honors will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Spring burial will be May 11 in the parish cemetery.
