ORONO – Phillip Willard Gil-dart, 98, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at an Orono health care center. He was born March 20, 1910, in Bangor. He worked at Snow & Nealley, and Great Northern Paper, Millinocket, as a blacksmith. Phillip was known for his stories, frequenting the McDonald’s, Broadway, Bangor, and playing golf at Bangor Municipal Course. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence Gildart; sons, Phillip and Neal Gildart; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Gildart. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his daughter, Suzanne Gallagher and her husband, Brian, of Orono and their children, Ian and Cullen; son, David Gildart and his wife, Sally, of San Antonio and their children, David and Lisa; three grandchildren, James, John and Jody, children of Phillip; two special grandchildren, Carolyn Gildart, who attends the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Brian Gildart of Kennebunkport, children of Neal; daughter-in-law, Laurie DuPaul and her husband, Jay, of Kennebunkport; and seven great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by the many residents and staff of Orono Commons. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono, with the Rev. Robert Landry officiating. Friends may call 1:30 p.m. until the time of service Thursday.
