OWLS HEAD – Theresa M. Byron, 94, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Knox Center for Long Term Care. Born Aug. 17, 1914, in Hallowell, she was the daughter of Myles and Helen Mortimer Magee. She was educated in and graduated from Webster, Mass. After high school, she married the Rev. Vernon Byron, in Webster, Mass. For more than 40 years, Mrs. Byron assisted her husband with his ministry in many different churches throughout New England and New Jersey. Together they served churches in Woonsocket, R.I., East Rochester, N.H., West Sutton, Mass., South Woodstock, Conn., East Killingly, Conn., and Fishersville, Mass., before settling in Millinocket, for several years. They later moved on to Union, N.J., and their last church in Crestville, N.J., before retiring to Rockland. In 1975, Mrs. Byron and her husband settled into their Owls Head cottage. Throughout the next year while her husband was serving as interim pastor at Rockland Congregational Church, Mrs. Byron was busy assisting families there and making many friends. It was during this year that Owls Head became “home” for her. Always one to lend a hand, she often used her cooking skills to provide wonderful meals to those who were struggling. After taking over a knitting project for a friend, Mrs. Byron had been active, knitting caps for cancer patients. Many phone calls were received from people who felt they had lost a good friend. They said her gifts and talents of giving and helping are something anyone who knew her will remember. She was predeceased by her husband in 1990; and a son-in-law, Charles Morgan. Mrs. Byron is survived by her son, Paul Byron and his wife, Louise, of Wilmington, N.C.; her daughter, Doris Morgan of Baltimore; grandchildren, Meredith DiMambro and her husband, Brian and their children, Seth, Delilah, Toby and Theo, of Dover, N.H., Jennifer Byron and her son, Max, of Gardiner, Leslie Seidel and her husband, Robert and their children, Andrew, Philip and Christina of Kinnelon, N.J., and Chuck Morgan and his wife, Marla and their daughter, Sarah, of Gardiner. At the request of the family, a private gathering of remembrance was held. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
